The NaviTag Technologies Cargo Tracking Unit (CTU) is designed to address the needs of today’s security and visibility requirements of cargo within the supply chain. The heightened concerns of security and desire to achieve in-transit visibility are in greater demand than ever before. The market is demanding that timely, accurate information be made available in a consistent format across multiple modes of transportation and service providers.
Previously the only information available was provided by each transportation providers' asset / fleet management system. The data was segmented to their specific portion of the intermodal journey (truck, train, ship) and if you changed service providers, the level of information and format changed with the vendor. This aggregated data was typically historical, event based and prone to error. While better than no data altogether, such low quality data did not provide the cargo owner with position and security information necessary to manage their supply chain.
NaviTag Technologies has developed a unique solution to this problem by designing a cargo centric tool that provides the cargo owner with control and ownership of the in-transit monitoring information. The NaviTag CTU was designed for, and is purchased by, the cargo owner to provide them with the specific information they need to monitor their cargo anywhere on earth. This satellite based CTU provides end-to-end, in-transit visibility and security reporting without the restrictions of other technologies. The data is directed to the cargo owner based on their custom designed format established through exception management rule sets.
The self contained design does not require an additional power source, an exterior antenna, a terrestrial network of readers or software installation to provide global in-transit monitoring of the cargo. The CTU is light weight, portable and battery operated, allowing the cargo owner to mount the unit to containers, railcars, or trailers without having to alter the service providers’ equipment. It is designed to function within the existing transportation infrastructure and be simple to operate.
For the first time, the cargo owner has the ability to own and control the information about the status of their cargo in-transit. They can be selective on the product they choose to monitor, apply it across all of their service providers and receive the information in a custom designed format. A CTU, an activation unit and an Internet connection are all that is needed to achieve global visibility and security monitoring of their cargo within the supply chain.
