1) NaviTag CTU is attached to container door. No modification to container or special handling necessary.
2) Once attached, the CTU is securely activated with shipment specific values by activation unit. Procedure takes less than a minute.
3) Container is released from loading dock - the CTU transmits sensor status direct to satellite that relays information to ground stations throughout the world.
4) The ground station determines the CTUs location and forwards the encrypted data to the NaviTag DataCentre for decryption and rule processing.
5) Customer accesses shipment specific information at NaviTag DataCentre via web interface or XML interface.
6) Cargo arrives at destination - CTU is deactivated by entering in the correct unlock code on integrated keypad.
Wherever cargo is, NaviTag is ready to secure it. Our satellite network provides global visibility of your in-transit cargo, monitoring conditions you define and alerting recipients you specify. All without massive integrations. Your data, your way.

The NaviTag unit is designed to be attached to carrier-supplied container or trailer without modifications. Its integrated design includes a transmitter, antenna, locking mechanism, door and light sensors into one single, rugged package. Powered by 3 standard D cell flashlight batteries, it reliability reports position and door open conditions on a regulated basis throughout the cargo’s journey to its destination. The NaviTag unit is about the size of a paperback novel, universally fits on any ocean container, operates for 75 days, and is light in weight to facilitate return shipment. It attaches to the locking bars on the exterior of the container door and is securely locked in place for the duration of the voyage. It is easily detached at destination by entering the correct unlock code into the electronic keypad.
Since the NaviTag unit is, by design, a removable device, each cargo tracking session needs to be registered. The NaviTag Technologies solution is to initiate each cargo tracking session by associating a NaviTag with the cargo’s container number and its ultimate destination. This information is input into a registered activation unit (Palm Pilot) and transferred to the NaviTag via an authenticated infrared link. In addition, this activation unit maintains a bi-directional connection with NaviTag Technologies, providing a channel for future enhancements and upgrades.
Once the NaviTag has been activated it transmits sensor status information directly to the satellites overhead. The satellite relays this information to a network of ground stations strategically positioned throughout the world. Positional information for each transmission is calculated at the ground station and forwarded - with the original message - to the NaviTag DataCentre. The DataCentre receives and validates the transmissions, runs rules and evaluations against these transmissions, and stores the data for future evaluation. If any voyage activities warrant notification, the DataCentre will generate messages to the appropriate parties. The rules, messages, and notification parties are customer specific, and can be modified easily to accommodate individual company and voyage requirements.
